The Clinical Supervision Award is a 15-credit postgraduate course that focuses on the acquisition of both theoretical and practical competences and the personal and professional development domain, using reflective practice, developmental and strength-based approaches. The course will qualify you to practice supervision in a variety of formats and settings.

This programme of study is governed by the Individual Study-Units and Awards Regulations, 2020.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Examine the therapeutic relational change processes and development in supervision.
  • Describe a range of supervision models, including convergence and divergence across these models anchored in the current research and evidence-based practice.
  • Define and outline the contextual factors influencing the supervision process including power, gender, culture, prejudice, privilege, oppression and equity.
  • Reflect on how the personal experiences of the therapist and the supervisor impact the therapeutic relationship.
  • Highlight ethical dilemmas and ways to resolve them.
  • Prioritise the care of the supervisee, and the protection of client and the public.

Upon successful completion of the award, you may be registered as a clinical supervisor with the Psychotherapy Board. The qualification may also support you as an already-established psychologist in your work as a supervisor.
